VAT number invalid

Q: I have just uploaded suppliers with VAT numbers that I took directly from their BEE certificates, but the system keeps rejecting them saying “VAT number invalid”.

A: It is possible that the VAT number on the BEE certificate contains an error. The system checks whether the VAT number entered matches the standard format for valid VAT numbers and will give an error where there is a deviation, such as an incorrect sequence of numbers or incorrect amount of numbers. We suggest requesting a copy of the supplier's tax clearance certificate to verify the VAT number.
